Dungeon Elite [**] for Cluster Magazine
Cluster Magazine met for you Becko, Fada and Maia from Dungeon Elite [**] who, as the opening act of Silverstein and We Are The Ocean on the concert of 12th April,2012 on the stage of Traffic, in Rome; are ready to unleash us !
We depart from the usual boring question: how has Dungeon Elite born and why the choice of this name?
Becko: Dungeon Elite is a project on the web as a game. A stupid sideproject to piss around and to experiment with something nice that we made us have fun, just initially, being Fada of Novara and from Rome, we passed the " .wav" files and lyrics trough MSN and this is how was born "Make Love Not Warcraft" our first album.
Fada: Basically I had no band at the time and did not even know what it meant to sing, I ran a zine called Undertheory online and chatting with a young Mark Calanca, came out to play before a collaboration with some tracks by "A Fallen Stars" and then a more personal project , for the note. Dungeon Elite was a nerd name and direct, which emphasized our passions, that departed us from the "real world" or to be more 'accurate by the people we had around. Actually sounds a bit misanthropic ..
Born as a side project by Becko (Hopes Die Last, Everland) and Fada (Pandora's Hope), you've arrived to your third album. We can finally say that Dungeon Elite is no longer a side project but has its own identity?
Becko: Surely, it has an identity, certainly ! Now for Fada and Maia, Dungeon Elite is the main project and, now that we all live in three under one roof, you have to expect rivers of EPs and albums!
Fada: first of all I strongly believe in this project as Mark and Maia, for this reason we set up a home recording studio, where we experience / create / play new songs for our live shows or even to be proposed to be published. We are working very hard, despite the commitments of all days, to create something completely new.
Becko and Maia, in addition to be in a band togheter ,you're even partners in the life of everyday. How does this affect the band for good or evil? And how Fada lives the role of the "adopted son"?
Becko: I am the adopted son!
Fada: (laughs) I never felt that, in fact I consider them as two brothers in the truest sense of the word! I had to learn to take care of Mark, we are teaching him to wash dishes and cook. If it were for him, he would be closed all day on cubase!
Maia: I am the mother who cooks and cleans and make them fucking fed up all the time, Fada is the most responsible but he is also a fucking lazybones, Becko is a jerk, and spends all day locked in the closet.
You've never played live songs from your first EP "Make Love Not Warcraft", what is the rationale behind it?
Becko: The projects of that album were in a hard disk that I crushed in car door and fell apart, that's why!
Fada: Some time ago we planned to review a few pieces to bring live as a surprise, but actually we play songs almost all from New World Disorder, and for now it 's enough!
Maia: 'Cuz We Don't Fell Like It!
After so much time from your birth, is finally out your first music video: "Monochromatic". Why the choice of this song as a lead single, and how has the idea of the video born ?
Maia: The script I've written it's just about what inspired me of Monochromatic.
Fada: In practice, Monochromatic was the apter choice for the storyboard that Michelle wrote in a moment of pure madness! We say that is not the piece that best represents the change / evolution of the music that the band had been, but it was a fair compromise. We are preparing two new videos but we still have to decide how and where to shoot them!
How is the creative process of your songs? And above all, in everyday life, what influence and inspires you for your lyrics?
Becko: Our pieces come from everything around us affects us, the music we listen to, movies we see, the books we read, anything that can give an 'idea feeds the birth of a piece. Once written the music, the lyrics do them together, writing about society, computer games, film, friendship, fear, everything ..
Fada: These are things that we often live on our skin, so try to tell, sometimes funny and sometimes violent that it annoys people and new generations (including ours). Some of our texts are against the abuse of drugs and alcohol, some are focused on the guys who have little desire to respond simply because they turn their heads towards their vices. This is not to say that we are a group Sxe even if the house does not use any of its drugs with alcohol, and we hope only to make someone understand that they can improve, and achieve the goals deal with the forces that each has.
Maia: I'd kill all the customers entering the shop where I work pc but since I can not do shit I let writing at random.
Let's face it: basically in Italy you are among one of few bands, if not the only one, that plays this kind of music. Do you believe that people in Italy is ready for your musical style, or not?
Becko: absolutely not, that's why we're trying to increase more and more electronics to then id live sets oriented jset, leaving behind the rock and the "champions of Paramore."
Fada: I think that in Italy, to do this kind are the only, or rather I never heard anything like what we produce, this is very difficult for us to accept the listener, in recent times, the last to live well Our fan base have also purchased a large following in the dancehall / electronics. Precisely for this reason we are moving significantly in that direction, we have already begun to work with the boys in Rome, the whole crew of Substance, who work for years in this environment, with which we have organized our release party with whom we hope to continue working.
Maia: No, because nobody know shit.
We'll see you on April 12, on the stage of the Traffic in Rome, as the opening act for and We Are The Ocean Silverstein. What can a person who comes to see you live aspect from you ?
Becko: A full live set played, and studied in detail.
Fada: Well, this time you should expect something in our environment had not yet seen! Mark is working hard for weeks preparing for a live set that aims to make people dance and move!
You are a strong presence on social networks like Facebook, (once) Myspace etc. How you live your relationship with your fans and, most importantly, what is your stance on file sharing over the internet?
Becko: We agree to file sharing, but if you want to support $ 8 to help the band one has to spend it!
Fada: Social networks have become the soul of a band of self promotion. For our part we try to behave with all the people who were following us as friends, try to reply to all, I always have plenty of free time so I try to be as present as possible. We write in many, if only for advice, for knowing when and where he'll play, and every time for me, that I am not yet accustomed to this kind of thing, I always feel a sense of excitement, because I see myself in them, when from small (but still now) I could write some of my favorite singers.
Regarding the file sharing we completely agree! Indeed, the closure of all sites sharing was a major blow to the diffusion of artistic material, we grew up with duplicate cassettes and CDs burned, it is right that a person books a product before you listen, not just a song, given that Many times individuals are perfect and hard to suck cock! So 'if you like go to concerts, you buy the disc, the shirt, or go to Itunes and you download the pieces, just to support the band. I want the 98.Please give it me back!
Maia: Please come to Indonesia.
Wich are the bands, and not even Italian, that you mostly respected and admired?
Fada: Unfortunately the quality of music in Italy has dropped and only one kind of monopolized, but in all this there are some groups who resist, or otherwise create something serious and cool! In the first of our friends and comrades and brothers in the life of adventure Fear The Sirens, then surely the Genoese children Buonadonna of Creative Korea Party (keep them because of an eye will make you hurt), Ready, Set, Fall! Metalcore with the healthy way I like it, then surely the old guard are the Seed N'Feed who are real masters of life. Finally we have to watch the Avalanche The Diary. And then what? How sad!
What can we expect from tomorrow by Dungeon Elite?
What do we expect from tomorrow? Surely not "the sun in our faces" . But in the end we still hope it!
Thanks for the Inglese translation!
